Aim:
To prepare and submit Solution of cresol with soap IP (20 ml)
Requirements:
Cresol, vegetable oil, potassium hydroxide, purified water, beaker, water bath, measuring cylinder.
Principle:
It is also called as Lysol solution. It is used as a disinfectant for floors, table-tops, working area and surgical instruments. Cresol is soluble water to the extent of 2% v/v, while in soap solution to the extent of 50% v/v, in this preparation soap prepared in-situ place a role of solubilizing agent, to solubilize more of the cresol.

Procedure:
- Dissolve potassium hydroxide in 10ml of purified water. Add vegetable oil in this solution.
- Heat on a water bath. Heating is continued until a small portion dissolved in water without the separation of oil phase.
- Add cresol to the above soap solution mix thoroughly.
- Add sufficient purified water to make the volume up to 30ml.
Use:
Disinfectant.
Storage:
Stored in a well closed container and kept in cool place.
Direction:
For external use only.

Keep out of reach of children.
